Accommodation at Ovalau Holiday Resort

Our accommodation is in well-appointed one and two-bedroom garden bungalows, all self-contained with private facilities. Each bungalow at the Ovalau Holiday Resort also boasts an outside deck or Lanai that allows you to enjoy the vista of the neighboring South Pacific Ocean while you relax and watch the world slip by on the warm and gentle trade winds.

The spacious living area also allows for inside entertainment. The kitchenettes have a gas stove, refrigerator and are well fitted out with glassware, cutlery, plates and cooking utensils. All cottages are air-conditioned. A home away from home is the overall feeling we believe that you will experience.

Small and intimate, it offers all that one could desire from a warm and friendly family-run hospitality center.

Bar and Restaurant

The Restaurant offers a menu for everyone. European, Indian and traditional Fijian style meals can be enjoyed in a friendly atmosphere.

Don’t miss the fresh seafood caught by the local fisherman from the nearby villages.

On weekends there is often a “Lovo”, this is a traditional way of underground cooking. Stones are heated in a fire when the wood is burned down and the stones are hot, wrapped food is placed over hot stones and all is covered with leaves and earth and allowed to slowly cook. A delicious way of preparing food.

The Bar serves beer, as well as whines and liquor.

The perfect place to have a cool beer or some kava looking over to Wakaya Island as the sun goes down.

Location of the Resort

Ovalau is a volcanic island of about 180 square kilometers and is located north-east of the current capital of the Fiji Islands, Suva. It lies in the Fijian Province of Lomaiviti, which means the center of Fiji.

This location accounts for Levuka’s early development as the trading center and the first capital of Fiji. It’s beautiful and the well-protected harbor was almost equally distant from other island groups in the nation.

Ovalau Holiday Resort is located on the beach side, only five kilometers from the town of Levuka. The whole estate covers 21 acres of which the resort occupies 4 acres only. About 150 years ago the estate housed the residence of Sir Arthur Gordon, a Governor of Fiji.

Transport to town is either by taxi or local carriers transport charges are very reasonable.

The cabin’s location is similar to Levuka, they are nestled between the craggy hills and the ocean of the Pacific. This natural deterrent to growth ensures that the resort will remain of modest and personalized size, just as the Old Capital has.
