The small island of Ovalau, and in particular the old Capital of Fiji, Levuka, now inscribed a UNESCO World Heritage Site is becoming very popular with the heritage, culture and adventure buffs. Located five kilometers from this famous little town, nestled between the alluring blue of the South Pacific Ocean and the verdant greens of the surrounding hillside, is the Ovalau Holiday Resort. Location of Ovalau Holiday Resort
Ovalau is a volcanic island of about 180 square kilometers and is located north-east of the current capital of the Fiji Islands, Suva. It lies in the Fijian Province of Lomaiviti, which means the center of Fiji. This location accounts for Levuka’s early development as the trading center and the first capital of Fiji. It’s beautiful and the well-protected harbor was almost equally distant from other island groups in the nation.
Ovalau Holiday Resort is located on the beachside, only five kilometers from the town of Levuka. The whole estate covers 21 acres of which the resort occupies 4 acres only. About 150 years ago the estate housed the residence of Sir Arthur Gordon, a Governor of Fiji.
Transport to town is either by taxi or local carriers transport charges are very reasonable.
The cabin’s location is similar to Levuka, they are nestled between the craggy hills and the ocean of the Pacific. This natural deterrent to growth ensures that the resort will remain of modest and personalized size, just as the Old Capital has.
Getting to Ovalau Island
There are regular Express buses from Nadi to Suva. The Express bus trip to Suva takes about 4 hours along the scenic coral coast.
